Core 40 End-Of-Course Assessments (ECAs)

What are Core 40 End-of-Course Assessments? (8/29/06) - Aligned with Indiana’s Academic Standards, End-of-Course Assessments (ECAs) are final exams measuring what students know and are able to do upon completion of targeted Core 40 courses. The Core 40 End-of-Course Assessments are designed to ensure the quality, consistency, and rigor of Core 40 courses across the state. (more Q & A)

How did Caston perform on the 2005 Algebra I ECA? (8/29/06) - Results for the 2005-06 school year are not yet publicly available on the DOE (Indiana Department of Education) website. In the table below are the results for the Algebra 1 ECA administered in the spring of 2005. You will note that all of the Midwest Conference Schools, except Frontier, are included as well as several other area schools. Frontier's data is not online. (all IN schools)

The "Proficiency Rating" column shows the percent of students passing (a scaled score of at least 579 was required to pass). For Caston you will note that 2.2% of the 46 students taking the test, or 1 student, passed the Algebra 1 ECA.

Caston had 49 students take the Algebra 1 test and none of them passed as shown in the table below. Fifty-five students took the English 11 test and as shown below 30.90% (or 17 students) passed.

14.3% Of Caston Algebra II Students Pass ECA Final Exam In Spring 2007 (11/11/07) - At the November 6, 2007 School Board meeting Jr.-Sr. High School Principal Dan Foster reported that 14.3% of Caston's Algebra II students in the spring of 2007 passed the ECA final exam. He noted that Caston exceeded the statewide average of 12% passing the exam. When the results for other area schools are made public it will be posted here similar to the above. Phillips believes it's also worth noting that this 14.3% compares to Caston's Algebra I results of 00.00% passing in 2006 and 2.2% passing in 2005 (see above tables).

Among Foster's comments: "...Are we happy with that (14.3%)? Well, kind of...I am pleased that we were able to surpass the state average, but we got to try pushing on..."

23.5% Of Caston Biology I Students Pass ECA Final Exam In Spring 2007 (12/7/07) - At the December 4, 2007 School Board meeting it was confirmed that 23.5% of Caston's Biology I students in the spring of 2007 passed the ECA final exam. Throughout Indiana 50% of the students passed this final exam. When the results for other area schools are made public it will be posted here similar to the above.
