Introduction By reading these words, you have
already taken a small town one step closer to its goal. You have decided to give
us an opportunity to share our story, which is how we plan to gain the support
necessary to create a better future for our citizens. Liberty Township is a small community
with a big heart. It is a town that lives the clichés of rocking chairs on
front porches and tractors in fields. Our
citizens may be few and far between, but they are tightly woven together in a
community that shares a common goal: to live life to its fullest.
Unfortunately, our goal is becoming harder and harder to achieve.
In an effort to maintain our hopeful
spirit for a bright future, we have decided to focus our efforts on the building
of a community center. We feel that a community center would create a hub for
our citizens; a place to gather together to better our future, for social
events, business meetings, classes, and programs that will help our citizens to
thrive in a town where opportunities are absent.
Our committee has compiled this small booklet (available upon request) to give you a glimpse of our small town and its goal. We have put together a vision of our dream, details of the community center we hope to build. Also included are the words of our citizens, those who have chosen to pledge their support, and therefore decided to step closer themselves to a brighter future. This booklet clearly outlines our goal and our plan to achieve it. We can only hope that you too will not only see the needs we have highlighted, but that you will take action in our effort to fulfill that need. By making that decision, you will not only touch the lives of our citizens… you will touch the future. Mission
Statement We are determined to build
hope for the future by creating a center for educating our citizens, young and
old; gathering them in collaboration for local business; housing local athletic
leagues and healthy living activities; and turning strangers into neighbors at
community social and cultural events. Our
mission is simple: to better our community by providing citizens with a place to
gather… and grow. Need
Statement Our small farming community
has great need for a facility capable of housing activities that are common in
most other cities; such as youth sports programs, family reunions, weddings,
concerts, cultural programs, and other large events. Our community has been unable to host such events due to the
simple lack of facilities. Larger communities offer
their citizens many community outreach opportunities. These opportunities facilitate growth and improvement in
their communities. Our citizens not
only lack the facilities that larger communities have available to them, but
also the opportunities and financial resources.
Adult education and youth
programs are examples of possible activities that would greatly benefit the
members of our community. The
community center would host foreign language classes, computer classes,
instruction for resume building and organizational techniques, parenting
classes, exercise classes, community bible studies, and meetings for local
businesses to collaborate (such as our large farming community). Classes for children would also be made available such as
tutoring, study skills and language classes, and youth sports programs.
The center will provide a
place in the community where these programs will give our youth and adult
citizens the opportunity to attain the knowledge, skills and versatility needed
to grow. Our community will then be
more accepted and respected by business, industry and community organizations.
Our community may be small, but our dreams are big; and the heart of our
community feels that we would only grow stronger with the building of this
center. In summary, we want all of
our community members, especially our youth, to have a place and the opportunity
to develop to their maximum intellectual, social, emotional, physical and
spiritual potential. Demographics

Facility
Plan The Liberty Township
Community Center, and 8,150 square foot facility, has been flexibly designed to
meet the growing needs of the community. A
multi-purpose room/gymnasium (seating 320) for large events, storage rooms,
conference room (seating 80), a kitchen, and handicap accessible restrooms are
all incorporated into the environmentally-friendly "green space"
design. The building is designed
with the goal of requiring minimal maintenance for many years to come.
In addition, the facility will be adaptable to change as unforeseen needs
arise. The exterior is both
practical and appealing, further enhancing the appearance of Liberty Township
Park, where the building is to be located.
The new community center
will sit directly south of Liberty Township Park on three acres of land that was
purchased by Liberty Township in the spring of 2006. It will be conveniently located in an area already
established as the "hub" of community activities for citizens of all
ages. The center will be served
with duel street access and be connected to Fulton's town utilities. Cost
and Funding The projected cost is a
significant investment for our community depending upon the structure chosen.
The building committee is dedicated to establishing a maintenance escrow
account of $200,000 with the Fulton County Community Foundation.
Liberty Township has been raising money through private individuals and
applying for grants through different organizations in order to fund the much
needed building. A professional
grant writer has been retained to pursue several grants including a Community
Focus Grant for $500,000 toward the cost of the building. Supporting
